NHS organisations in the Black Country are teaming up to give a ‘behind the scenes’ look at healthcare over a 24-hour period.
Between 8am on Tuesday 15 November and 8am on Wednesday 16 November, NHS staff will be posting photos and videos on social media to show the wide range of people and situations they work with in a typical day.
Organisations taking part include Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Black Country Integrated Care Board, Dudley Group NHS Trust, Dudley Integrated Health and Care NHS Trust, Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and West Midlands Ambulance Service.
Over the 24-hour period, the spotlight will be on a variety of hard-working staff and services including district nursing, patient transport, community pharmacy, GP extended access and an urgent treatment centre.
Richard Beeken, Chair of the Black Country Urgent and Emergency Care Board, said: “NHS services across the system continue to be extremely pressured, especially as we head into winter, however our teams are working collaboratively and tirelessly to make sure patients are being provided with safe and high-quality care and support.
“There is so much that goes on behind the scenes, so documenting 24 hours of healthcare in the Black Country is a great opportunity for us to highlight the incredible work that goes into keeping people out of hospital and the various options available for healthcare.
“Everyone has a part to play in supporting the NHS this winter. It’s really important that people still come forward for care if they need it, however we’re asking people to choose the right healthcare service for their needs. This could be your local pharmacy for any minor illnesses, using NHS 111 online if you require urgent medical advice but your condition is not life-threatening, and only calling 999 in life-threatening emergencies.”
