Where you work and your job role?
I work on a General Medicine ward, which is predominantly elderly care.
My job role is a Nursing Associate Apprentice. My day to day activities range from caring for patients personal hygiene care, maintaining nutrition, maintaining vital signs, giving medication (under supervision), escalating deteriorating patients to the Doctors and liaising with the Doctors to formulate a treatment plan.
Why you chose an apprenticeship?
I chose an apprenticeship as I have worked in the trust for 8 years, prior to wanting to progress in my career. I looked into going to university to do my student nursing, but as my husband earns above the threshold, I wouldn’t qualify for much of a bursary and I had bills that I was responsible for.

Where you work and your job role?
I am a Nursing Associate Apprentice working in the Stroke Rehabilitation Team. We are based at Hollybank House in Willenhall. As a Nursing Associate Apprentice, I am completing a level 5 foundation degree level course and once qualified will be working with and supporting nurses to provide direct patient care.
Why you chose an apprenticeship?
I chose to undertake this apprenticeship to give me a stepping-stone into a nursing or midwifery career. I had looked at doing a traditional degree, but as I had already got a degree in a none-healthcare subject, it was not financially viable for me to take that route. I heard about the Nursing Apprenticeship scheme and it was a way for me to both work towards a degree level course and earn money to support my family too.

Nursing Associate Apprenticeship – Surgical Assessment Unit
Why you chose an apprenticeship?
I chose the apprenticeship as felt I felt stagnated in my role as a clinical support worker. After 15 years and being a mature student, I always wanted to complete my nurse training but unfortunately life and family did not make this possible. I have enjoyed my clinical support worker role, but I needed a new goal and a challenge.

Where you work and your job role?
I work on ward 9, the trauma and orthopaedic department.
Why you chose an apprenticeship?
I wanted to gain skills and knowledge as I worked with the team. I am a very hands on learner which this apprenticeship allowed. I was able to learn and do at the same time.
