Return to Practice gives individuals, who have been registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) previously, the chance to return to their profession by undertaking a period of updating.

Local healthcare providers, including The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, The Dudley Group NHS Trust,  Dudley Integrated Health and Care NHS Trust, Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, as well as providers within social care, can employ allied health professionals (AHPs) or nurses who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience with them. All Trusts welcome prospective ‘return to practice’ applicants and interest.

The Black Country Integrated Care System wants to support the Trusts and social care partners to raise awareness of return to practice (RtP). We intend to share information about the RtP process, the eligibility criteria, how they can update their clinical skills and how to support their studies, as well as information on the financial support available and signposting to key contacts within each of these organisations.

System wide networking events

We helped deliver some system wide networking events. Feedback from each event taken place so far can be obtained below:

Information from the event is being collated and will be shared here very soon.

On Tuesday 1 March 2022, we supported a system wide networking event hosted by The Black Country Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) and Nursing Faculty.

At the online event, guest speakers included colleagues from the Health Education England’s (HEE) national and regional RtP teams for AHPs and nursing, a regional colleague from social care and professionals who have returned to practice shared their stories and experiences.

14 people attended the event and fed back positive comments at the end of the session. Each attendee received copies of the presentations as well as follow up enquiries and support.
