Lead Nurse

Hours of work: 24-30 hours per week - permanent position

An opportunity has arisen in Prestbury Medical Practice for someone to join our team as a Lead Nurse. We are a professional and friendly GP Practice looking after around 14,000 patients based in the Wednesfield/Bushbury area. The practice relocated to a purpose-built medical centre in July 2023.
This is a busy role within our Practice and we are building on our commitment in delivering a high-quality service to our patients. The applicant should have proven experience of supervising/leading a team effectively, be an effective communicator and able to work both independently and within a team.

The post holder will lead and manage the nursing resource, working closely with the GP's and management team to deliver the practice priorities alongside the needs of patients. They will support the delivery of practice policies and procedures and provide leadership and direction for the nursing team.
Operational
• Be responsible for the operational management for all clinical services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care in all settings.
• Be responsible for the standards of clinical care provided by clinical staff.
• Be responsible for the day-to-day management of clinical services, including enhanced access clinics
• Oversee planning for clinic lists, working with different teams/staff to ensure clinics are fully utilised to maximise on performance opportunities
• Oversee the implementation of quality initiatives
• Have specific responsibility to ensure that clinical services and clinical policies are up-to-date and compliant with regulatory bodies, such as the Care Quality Commission
• Be Deputy Lead for Safeguarding
• Be the lead for Infection Prevention and Control inspections and ensure hygiene standards and legislation are met
• Be the lead for confidential waste management
• Support the implementation of clinical information systems and monitor effectiveness.
• Lead on performance for expected quality outcomes, such as QOF, Primary Care Framework, LES and DES and any other practice improvement programmes.
• Attend and contribute to meetings as appropriate, for example, Practice Meetings, Education Meetings, staff meetings, PCN meetings, management meetings, clinical team
• Support PPG meetings; attend evening bi-monthly meetings
• Ensure all complaints and concerns are handled effectively and remedial action taken in accordance with practice policy
• Develop and maintain working relationships with PCN staff
• Ensure significant event queries or any other area of concern are handled effectively and actions taken to address any concerns
• Manage and lead on any required clinical audits•
Nurture good working relationships with external agencies
• Develop and maintain student nurse secondments to the practice with local education providers
• Check and sign off PGD and PSD
Staff• Provide efficient leadership and management, and development of nursing team.
• Be responsible for monitoring performance against key targets
• Manage leave/absence requests for nursing team
• Manage clinical staff rota, including Saturday rota
• Support the recruitment of clinical services staff as required
• Plan and develop an appropriate staff skill mix, subject to budgetary limits.
• Be responsible for the maintenance of agreed staffing levels.
• Foster good working relationships and team work with staff in all departments.
• Ensure the professional development of clinical staff, with regular individual reviews and appraisals consistent with their personal and professional needs and development
• Support clinical staff in their applications for external training and education, where approved.
• Support HR with all matters relating to grievance, disciplinary and time/absence management
• Ensure all NMC registrations and revalidation are up-to-date
• Lead by example to assure high levels of professional performance and conduct, by ensuring all staff fulfil the requirements of their job descriptions and adhere to all organisational policies and procedures.
Professional• Ensure that all professionally registered clinical staff meet the statutory professional requirements
• Ensure staff are up-to-date with mandatory training modules
• Maintain own knowledge of clinical standards
• Ensure that written policies exist and are understood by team
