PCN Band 4 £12.24 - £13.44 per hour
Role Specific Responsibilities:
The following are the core responsibilities of the GPA. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels. You will work within your level of skills and experience.
· Arrange referrals on behalf of the clinician – both internally (to other clinicians or care coordinators/social prescribers/health and wellbeing coaches) or externally (to the hospital or community clinics)
· Explain treatment procedures to patients
· Responsibility for the processing of urine specimen submissions to the practice; dipstick of urine and action following Practice protocol.
· Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment,
· Supporting clinicians with administrative tasks, input to the clinical computer system and assisting the clinician in a variety of clinics not limited to but including: immmunisation and vaccination, smear, wound, coils and implants, minor surgery, joint injections.
· Stocking of clinical rooms
· Integral role in the infection control activity of the practice
· Vaccines, injectables, drug stock management
· Complete simple clinical observations/investigations as directed, such as dipstick urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs, phlebotomy etc.
· Complete basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign (such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.)
· Help the GP liaise with external agencies (such as arranging admissions so the GP can continue with their consultations)
· Sorting clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacists etc.
· Extracting information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding this to patient notes
· Supporting with QOF reviews
· Supporting the recall system for Long Term Condition reviews
GPA's should also:
· Participate in an annual individual performance review
· Track and record evidence of their experience against the national competency framework
· Inform the Lead GP of any concerns regarding their role and request professional development as needed
· Be aware of their own professional boundaries and what to do when they are reached.
