Clinical and care professional leaders from across the Black Country attended the latest Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Medical Officer collaboration event in October, to discuss how health services can be improved to ensure patients are receiving the best care.

Hosted by Sally Roberts, Chief Nursing Officer for the NHS Black Country Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Dr Ananta Dave, Chief Medical Officer for the NHS Black Country ICB, the event was the fourth in its series, falling on the anniversary of the first event held last year.

The event had a variety of guest speakers, with presentations focusing on the Integrated Care System (ICS) Clinical Strategy, the community transformation of mental health and population health management and reducing health inequalities in the community. Attendees were also given the opportunity to network with fellow professionals and provide their own insights and feedback through scheduled workshops.

Dr Ananta Dave said “I want to thank clinical, care and voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) leaders from various parts of the Black Country system for coming together to continue important conversations about making the right decisions for patients and people of the Black Country and delivering the right services. I hope the attendees had a stimulating and enjoyable day, and that the conversations continue beyond the event.”

Sally Roberts said “It was a fantastic day that brought all of our clinical leads together with local authority partners, and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended. We heard from Professor Albert Mulley and Margaret Mulley on the work they are supporting us with through The Dartmouth Institute, as well as Dr Weaver and Dr Abilash from Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust on the transformation that’s happening around mental health.

“We are committed to working together across multi-agencies, the mental health community, primary care and the acute provider collaborative in terms of how we drive that change around mental health services and older people services across the Black Country, and it was great to see constructive discussions taking place.”

The next event will be held on Wednesday 21 February 2024 and is to be relaunched as a Black Country system leadership event to involve all stakeholder partners more broadly.
