Trainee Nursing Associate Apprenticeships can be obtained through an employer, such as a hospital, GP practice, Primary care Networks and in social care settings. They are also included in the ARRS scheme.

Nursing Associate Apprenticeship Programme

The dedicated team at the Training Hub are here to support forward-thinking primary care employers who want to be able to meet the future demand of their services by developing their nursing workforce. From a HCA to a Nursing Associate this apprenticeship degree programme is a great way to upskill current staff. There are currently funding opportunities available to help support GP practices to release staff for the Nursing Associate Apprenticeship Programme, and for non-Apprenticeship Levy paying employers the Training Hub can seek an apprenticeship levy transfer from another organisation to fund the educational costs.

A Nursing Associate Apprenticeship programme usually takes two years to complete via an apprenticeship framework. Theory hours and practice hours need to be evidenced and release from practice for placements and study time at university is mandatory.

Trainee Nursing Associates must have the capability to develop numeracy skills required to meet programme outcomes and demonstrate proficiency in English language. As a minimum Approved Educational Institutions require evidence of key skills level 2 in English and Maths however they can set their own minimum entry requirements which may also require level 2/3 in Health and Social care.

Salary costs throughout the duration of the two-year period will need to be met by the employing practice and full support of the employing practice with appropriate supervision is also required.

Educational fees will need to be paid but a variety of ways of doing this are offered through use of apprenticeship levy funding. Please contact the Training Hub for advice and support on this.

HEE (Health Education England) currently offer primary care employers who send their employees on this apprenticeship programme a support package of £8000 (£4000 per year over two years). This amount is payable to employers to support the work-based learning environment of trainees.
