The NHS app has been developed by the NHS and has been designed to help millions of people get more information about their health and care - and more control of how they use NHS services.

We want to encourage as many people as possible to download the app and make use of its many features, such as the NHS COVID Pass, ordering repeat prescriptions and booking GP appointments.

We are working hard to increase the registrations of the NHS App by promoting its benefits to local people.

As part of this work, we have received funding from NHS Digital to work with digital transformation specialists Healthwave. Together we have completed research to understand how the app might benefit key cohorts of patients who currently use NHS urgent and emergency care services more than most, for example parents of 0–5-year-olds and young people. This research has provided us with useful insights into the barriers, benefits, motivations, and opportunities to influence NHS App usage locally.  
The next phase of this work is now underway, with the Healthwave team using the insights they have learned to develop a campaign approach and communications toolkit.

Alongside this will be an additional resource that has been developed to help mitigate exclusion and mobilise a network of digital carers. This includes the development of a peer-to-peer support Facebook group, community tips and tricks, tools around NHS App features and a range of curated web links to help people access devices, connectivity, and digital skills, in addition to finding out more about key NHS App features and benefits.
